The Wheel of Consent, developed by Betty Martin, is a wonderful framework to help us ask for what we want, find our pleasure, and deepen our capacity for intimacy and compassion. This Introduction to the Wheel of Consent workshop is an ongoing practice of noticing and choosing, and will combine embodied practice with learning, reflection and sharing. This workshop is not about consent in the way we have been taught to understand it, but about making agreements and noticing our boundaries, feeling into our yes and paying attention to our no. You will be able to participate by doing or observing, and request that the exercises be nontouch, if preferred.
Beth Poague (bethpoague.com) is a curious, solo poly, queer, forest dweller living in the Hudson Valley. She came to rope and kink relatively late in life, and has been doing suspension for five years. Beth has a Master’s degree in Social Justice Educational Studies, with a focus on disability justice and inclusion. She is currently training to be a Certified Wheel of Consent Facilitator (schoolofconsent.org), and also trained in restorative practices and conflict resolution, including circle-keeping, transformative mediation, and group facilitation. She thinks a lot about somatics and co-regulation, neurodivergence and trauma, healing and connection, abolitionism, collective care, nature and poetry.
